You must remember this...
There are no miracle strategies for improving memory.
Keeping your brain cells active, however, may help prevent deterioration
due to disuse. And remembering involves concentration and
organization - skills that can be honed.
What to do
To begin with:
- Take medicines properly
- Use
antioxidants
- Limit alcohol
- Don't smoke
- Watch your weight (but avoid drastic dieting)
- Eat a variety of nutritious - and low fat - foods
|
Yum...Blueberries!
A study reported recently in The Journal of
Neuroscience found that rats fed a blueberry extract diet, rich in
natural antioxidants, did better on memory tests and on tests of
balance and coordination than other rats. "For these animals
at least, investigators were able to produce noticeable improvement
within a relatively short period of time." |
These general activities are good for the brain and memory:
- Keep busy
- Stay physically fit
- Socialize
-
Relax--reduce stress (I know, I know!)
- Get enough sleep
- Learn to play an instrument
-
Flex, go with the flow
-

mind-challenging games--chess, bridge, concentration
-
Solve
puzzles, play word games
-
Seek out new activities and adventures
-
Take a class, learn something new
